Bonsai Care Guide for October
October, when fruits begin to ripen. This marks the tree's peak growth period.
If the tree suffered summer fatigue from the heat, this is when it recovers and regains vigor. It's also the time to start preparing for the cold winter ahead.
Apply ample fertilizer to build strength for winter survival.
Additionally, provide care tailored to each tree, such as pruning, wire training, or repotting.
If warm days persist, check the soil moisture in pots and water more frequently, or move them to a partially shaded spot to prevent drying out.
Mornings and evenings are getting colder.
As a guideline, bring them indoors when the average temperature drops below 15 degrees Celsius (mainly at night).
When bringing them indoors, avoid placing them in rooms with heating appliances. This will dry out your bonsai.
Watering once thoroughly each morning is sufficient.
However, during the first half of the month, if there are windy days or times when the sun is still strong, the surface of the pot may feel slightly damp while the soil underneath has dried out.
Check the dryness of the bonsai soil and the condition of the leaves carefully, and water in the evening.
Autumn is a popular travel season, so when you'll be away on trips, make sure to water thoroughly and place it in the shade.
To prevent it from dying, adjust its placement according to your lifestyle.

Apply more fertilizer in autumn than in spring to prepare for winter.
For bonsai that change color in autumn, applying too much fertilizer will prevent the leaves from turning a beautiful color. Therefore, either refrain from fertilizing until the leaves begin to change color, or apply only a small amount and wait for the color change.
Also, as autumn brings cooler weather, pests find it easier to survive and become more active.
For prevention, it's best to spray regularly. If you spot any pests, spray immediately.
October offers pleasant temperatures, but the significant difference between morning/evening and daytime makes it a challenging season to manage.
Let's help make it a good season for your bonsai by managing it correctly!

When repotting, please consider using NAGINOWA bonsai pots :)
