Naginowa Shigaraki Ware Iroha Dyed Rice Bowl
This is a Shigaraki ware rice bowl.
Have you ever heard of “Iroha-nihonoe”, a beautiful play on letters that has been handed down from ancient times in Japan? It is a sentence made by using all the letters of Hiragana from “A” to “N” with one syllable each, and its meaning is a wonderful wish that “you should live your life hard, which is impermanent, and even when you get old, you should bloom ‘your flower’ with each color and live a full bloom life full of joy”.
This rice bowl strongly depicts this play of characters.
The indigo color, reminiscent of Japan blue on a white background, is very Japanese and can immediately create a Japanese dining table.
Since each item is individually handmade, there may be differences in appearance and feel from product to product. Please understand this beforehand.
This is Shigaraki ware. Shigaraki ware is a pottery produced mainly in the area around Koga County, Shiga Prefecture. Shigaraki is good at making large ceramics, and in the past, hibachi (brazier) was often made. In modern times, flowerpots, vases, and washbasins are also widely produced. Shigaraki ware is also famous throughout Japan and the world for its raccoon dog figurines.
